Venture Capital grew 11% in the first trimester of 2020
Venture Capital grew 11% in the first trimester of 2020, despite the reduction of mergers and acquisitions in Mexico, and the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic. The largest transaction of this segment was the $125 million investment of Softbank in the Mexican fintech Alphacredit this past February. With 19 transactions totaling 187 million dollars, venture capital is the only segment that show an increase of 48.62% with respect to the same period one year prior. The financial and insurance sectors, together with the internet, accounted for a total of 18 operations and Alphacredit belongs to these segments. During the second half of 2019, the number of rounds of venture capital investment in Mexico totaled 50, compared to 32 in the first half of 2019; while the total accumulated in this period was 1,380 million dollars, more than double that in the first half, according to the Finnovating innovation platform.
